The transformation of a redundant office building into Northwood Hospital was driven by the ambition to create a healthcare environment that feels intuitive and emotionally engaging rather than overtly clinical. Inspired by the investors' shared passion for sailing, surfing and open landscapes, the project draws on the meeting of sea and sky as its guiding narrative. Throughout the interiors, Slamp lighting contributes to this vision with carefully selected collections that introduce softness, movement and a welcoming atmosphere, reinforcing the dialogue between architecture and emotion.
"Slamp lighting features throughout the hospital, from the patient bedrooms and stairwells to the reception area, where a dramatic chandelier became the centrepiece of the design. Having worked with Slamp on previous projects, I was drawn once again to the brand's ability to create sculptural lighting that feels organic and emotive while remaining highly functional."

Within the hospital, Nuvem defines the reception area with a striking lighting installation that welcomes visitors from the very first moment. Its sculptural presence helps create an intuitive and welcoming environment, balancing the technical requirements of a contemporary healthcare setting with comfort, orientation and emotional wellbeing. To ensure the highest safety standards, an indoor installation of Nuvem Outdoor was specified: its modules are made from V0 polycarbonate, a self-extinguishing material with high flame resistance, making it ideal for healthcare applications. Sustainability also informed the project through the selection of durable materials and finishes designed to maintain their quality over time.
"The reception chandelier became a physical expression of the project's narrative. Viewed from below, it evokes a breaking wave; from above, it resembles drifting clouds. This duality reflected the shared passions of the investors and the wider inspiration of sea and sky that informed the design. Beyond its visual impact, the lighting helps to soften the transition into a healthcare setting, creating a welcoming arrival experience and encouraging a moment of pause and reflection."

"The result is a healthcare environment that demonstrates how thoughtful design can bridge the gap between clinical performance and emotional wellbeing. Every element was considered not only for how it worked, but for how it made people feel, creating a hospital that is welcoming, restorative and deeply human."
