La Traviata by Robert Wilson lights up the gala evening at La Scala
Teatro alla Scala, Milan | Inaugural Gala for Salone del Mobile 2025

To celebrate the official opening of Salone del Mobile 2025, Slamp starred in an exceptional event at Teatro alla Scala, where art, design, and theatre merged into an immersive experience. On April 7, the famous Milanese stage hosted “The Night Before: Chairs, Objects, Opera”, an evening conceived and curated by visionary director and artist Robert Wilson, with La Traviata light sculptures – designed for Slamp – lighting up the scene.

The performance offered a musical journey through some of the most iconic moments of the operatic repertoire, featuring the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra conducted by Michele Spotti and soprano Marina Rebeka as lead voice. The scenography paid tribute to Wilson’s creative path, including iconic stage elements and selections of objects and seating from his historical productions.

A central and poetic element of the show, the La Traviata lamps were lowered onto the stage one by one, like suspended presences, creating a luminous choreography with intense symbolic value. The project stems from the deep dialogue between Slamp and Robert Wilson, rooted in a shared sensitivity to light as a narrative tool and the pursuit of an essential yet impactful aesthetic language.

"I immediately understood that the collaboration with Wilson would enrich Slamp with culture, visions, and sensations, and would lead to something visionary and avant-garde."

Roberto Ziliani, CEO Slamp

La Traviata, made of Lentiflex® – a material patented by Slamp for its ability to refract and fluidify light – evokes the shape and texture of a suspended ice crystal, transforming light into a contemplative experience. A perfect example of how Slamp interprets light as a scenic and architectural element, always balancing innovation, emotion, and design.
